In short. Tap “New”, then paint the board: soil, apples, spikes, crates, one burrow, and the worm, head first. ✓ checks that it can be won and gives the par, the fewest moves possible; ▶ plays it for real; 💡 shows the solution move by move. As soon as it can be won, 🎁 gives it to a friend with a short link, no account or app needed.
How to make a level
- Tap “New” in your garden. A starter board is waiting: some ground, a two-segment worm, a burrow.
- Pick an element and paint. Soil, apple, spikes, crate, burrow, worm. Drag your finger for soil and spikes; the eraser clears, and ✥ moves one piece, the whole worm, or the whole board.
- Place the worm head first: tap the cell for its head, then each segment in turn.
- Adjust the size with the arrows at the top: one row or column more or less, on each side, up to 24 columns by 18 rows.
- Check, test, name it. ✓ says whether it can be won and in how many moves, ▶ plays it with the game's real graphics, and the field at the top gives it a name.
What the solver tells you
The ✓ button doesn't guess: it explores every position the worm, the crates and the apples can reach, and answers three questions. Can the level be won? One segment too many, one crate in the wrong place, and the planned route no longer works. In how few moves? That's the par, the number a player must match to earn three stars. Can you get stuck in it? The editor warns you, and that's not necessarily a flaw: a level where you can never go wrong is just a stroll.
💡 then replays the solution move by move, so you can check the route is the one you had in mind. Often it isn't, and the solver found a shorter one. It's like that.
What makes a good level
A good level isn't a long one: it's one where the first idea fails. The player sees the apple, rushes to eat it, and ends up too long for the next passage. A few recipes that work:
- Apple order: put the most tempting apple where eating it too early blocks what comes next.
- The apple that holds you up: until it's eaten, it supports the worm. Biting it pulls the floor out from under its belly.
- The one-way drop: a ledge you step down without thinking and can never climb back.
- The crate: it makes a step, or a bridge over spikes, but one push in the wrong direction is enough to lose everything.
- Few cells: a small, tight board forces decisions; a big empty one gets solved by trial and error.
Before you send your level, play it doing the first thing that comes to mind: if that works, your level is too nice.
Send your level to a friend
There are two ways to share it. Give it with the editor's 🎁 button as soon as it can be won: either you've won it yourself or the solver has proved it, and if the solver hasn't checked yet, it does so right then. Nothing to beat: your friend plays it, and you find out when they finish. Or challenge them: right after you win it, “Challenge a friend” sends it with your score, moves first, then time, and it's their turn to do better.
Either way, a short link goes out through your phone's share sheet, or gets copied on a computer. Your friend opens it in their browser, no account or app, and plays it in the real game, with the level's name and your nickname at the top of the screen. The level is kept on our server for a year, as long as the link is meant to work.
Suggest your level for the game
If you're proud of it, the 📤 button suggests it for the game itself. We get it, we play it, and if we like it, it joins a future update under your nickname. Nothing is published without a human playing it first, which protects both the players and your honour.
Where your levels are kept
Your levels live in your garden, the game's eighth world, in this device's browser: up to fifty of them. The ones you make here are waiting for you when you play Worm in the same browser, and the other way round. The rules, the traps and a method are in the apple-and-worm puzzle guide.
