Three cases that start arguments
Down by one point
A contract of 110 scored at 109 is down: a single missing point is enough. The taker scores nothing, the defence scores 162 + 110 = 272. The belote counts in that sum: 109 in tricks plus the belote is 129, and the contract is made.
Coinched and lost
When the stakes are doubled, only the side that wins the deal scores. A defence that coinched a contract of 100 and lost does not keep its tricks: the taker scores (tricks + 100) × 2, the defence scores zero, belote included if it held it. That is the price of contesting.
The belote is never multiplied
Coinched or not, the belote is worth 20, added after the multiplier. On a coinched 120 made with the belote you score (tricks + 120) × 2, then + 20, not + 40.
No-trumps, all-trumps and the announcements
This calculator applies the scale of our game, which sticks to the ordinary contract with one trump suit: no no-trumps, no all-trumps, and no tierce, fifty, hundred or four-of-a-kind, the belote-rebelote being the only bonus. At no-trumps the only change is the value of the cards: the ace goes to 19 and the jack to 2, as off trump, while the ten, king and queen keep their value; the deal is still 162. At all-trumps the usual card values (jack 14, nine 9, ace 6, ten 5, king 3, queen 2) add up to 156 in the cards rather than 152, and tables settle their counts in different ways, which is exactly the kind of house rule this calculator does not claim to referee.

You can play coinche or classic belote with a turned card; in the classic game the contract is not a number but «make more than the opponent», and the calculator above only applies to the coinche.
Frequently asked questions
Does the belote count towards making the contract?
Yes. The 20 points of belote-rebelote are added to the tricks when judging the contract: 105 in tricks with the belote is 125, and a contract of 120 is made. They are never multiplied by a coinche, though.
What does the defence score when the contract is made?
Its own trick points, belote included if it holds it, as long as the deal is not coinched. If it coinched and lost, it scores nothing.
How much is a capot worth?
Announced and made: a flat 250, tricks not added on top. Announced and lost: the defence scores 162 + 250 = 412. An unannounced capot, all eight tricks on an ordinary contract, earns no bonus: the normal scale applies, tricks plus contract.
Do you round to the nearest ten?
Not here. The game scores exact points, and so does the calculator. Rounding is a habit at some tables, not a rule of the scale.
Can I send someone the count?
Yes. «Share this count» builds a link that carries the whole deal, so whoever opens it lands straight on the same result. Nothing is stored anywhere.
